Huichin Tribe
When a new tree breaks earth
It must face up to
all the elements of nature
Big storms, howling winds, and so forth
A tree may grow up
and drop leaves and twigs
around its roots
This is called cultivation.
A mature tree scatters seeds
to nurture little trees
Thus we see a grove here and there
Even woods, and forest
It's never easy
Calamity stays in the way of growth
The world can be so cruel
I migrated to this town not long ago
It's the best place
for people of my own kind
Maybe because the Huichin folks
used to live here for thousand years
Perhaps they were even a tribe
of the ancient Huaxia in the East
who, indeed, walked
across the frozen plank of the Barring Sea
They came and planted themselves here as a tree
to cultivate a brand new world
Of course by now
they have long been eliminated
Still, I smell their leaves and twigs
A marvelous scent blesses me
I bask in good omen
Thus this town agrees with me
For that, I am thankful
to the Huichin Tribe
