Thank you for joining us yesterday at our TAAF Talk: Expanding AA & PI Studies in Higher Education. More than 100 individuals attended our engaging dialogue centered around the critical need for resources, research, and representation on campuses. We are grateful to our speakers Joseph Bae, Dr. Pawan Dhingra, and Dr. Rowena Tomaneng for their meaningful insights on the state of AA & PI studies in the US.
We want to highlight some important takeaways from our TAAF Talk to amplify efforts and spark action in bringing AA & PI studies to higher education:
-Success requires that we position AA & PI studies as part of a core curriculum in academia,
essential to developing critical thinkers and historical scholars. AA & PI studies must transcend individual identity and background.
-Investing in the next generation of academics and advocates ensures students will have access
to instructors and mentors with shared lived experiences. We should focus on the pipeline of emerging
AA & PI administrators, faculty, and scholars in order to bring quality AA & PI studies to higher education.
-Whether you are a donor, passionate alum, or student, you have the power to start or re-energize
efforts for change on your campus. Create a holistic strategy and enlist intersectional allies within
faculty and administration to build long-term success. Think about how you can leverage support
for other essential elements - student scholarships, community research and educational
resources - that can grow and nurture a program from the ground-up.
