美国总统也可以堂堂正正地爱祖国，第五代移民也不必数典忘宗 ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

克林顿当选总统后，发现自己有爱尔兰的根（他的曾祖母的父母亲出生在爱尔兰）。他以仅有1/8的爱尔兰血统为自豪，为一张爱尔兰祖居地的照片激动不已，关注着祖国的和平和发展。克林顿总统说，爱尔兰的根是他不遗余力地推进北爱尔兰和平条约的原因之一。他称爱尔兰为自己的第二家园，并身体力行地在那里的一个著名高尔夫球场边上买了一套两居室的公寓，以同时照顾到他对爱尔兰和高尔夫球的热爱。

奥巴马总统在当选总统前的2006年，以参议员的身份访问父亲的老家肯尼亚。他激动地说：“我很自豪地回到家！”Obama In Kenya 2006 : “I’m so proud to come back home”。

从克林顿总统和奥巴马总统的这些颇有人情味的小故事（出处来自于文后所附的三篇文章），可以看出：移民也不必数典忘宗，美国总统也可以堂堂正正地爱他的祖国。

其实美国这个移民国家还是蛮讲究自己的根的，也许这样文化的传承就长了些，历史的积淀就厚了些（有些人觉得美国历史短），就更值得骄傲。一个不认自己根的候选人，在移民开国和立国的美国肯定过不了关的。美国也因吸收和借鉴各种文化历史，而有了200多年来的辉煌成就！

毫无疑问，“尊祖爱国，饮水思源”是人类的普世价值。

WASHINGTON -- When President Clinton partied into the night at the annual American Ireland Fund dinner last night, it wasn't just because he was receiving the Millennium Peace Award. Like millions of other Americans, he has grown to love celebrating his own heritage in preparation for St. Patrick's Day today.

Since he has been in office, Clinton has discovered that he has Irish roots -- one reason, he says, he has sought to promote the Northern Ireland peace accords with intensity. He is one of 10 U.S. presidents -- almost one-fourth of them -- who have had an Irish heritage.

According to Gary Boyd Roberts, author of "Ancestors of American Presidents," "American Ancestors and Cousins of the Princess of Wales" and two volumes called "Notable Kin," two of Clinton's great-great grandparents -- the parents of his great-grandmother, Hattie Hayes -- were born in Ireland.

Boasts about Roslea Photo

         Washington, D.C., March 18, 1998 -- President Clinton is all excited about having a photo of his family's original residence in Roslea.  "I have a photo of the house in Roslea," he told Kinawley-born Fr. Sean McManus.

         Fr. McManus spoke with President Clinton at the St. Patrick's Day Luncheon on Capitol Hill, hosted by the Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich.

         "The president was all excited about the photo," said Fr. McManus.  "I reminded him that Cassidy -- his mother's name -- is a Fermanagh name, and that Fermanagh was claiming him as  one of their own.  He was very happy to be so claimed.  He is clearly delighted with his Irish roots."
